Drouin Dragons Soccer Club travelled to Phillip Island to play against a strong and determined home team in what shapes up as a warm up to the finals commencing in a few weeks’ time.
Two games were held for the Under 7s due to an abundance of players.
Both Drouin sides played extremely well, it’s great to see improvement week after week.
The Under 7’s are having so much fun learning the game and competing every week, they go from strength to strength! Best of all are the smiling happy faces!
Well done to all the Under 7’s!

Best game of the season for Drouin u 11s beating a very strong side in Phillip Island. An exciting game from start to finish with Charlie, Daniel, Freya and Mordi giving excellent run through the midfield, Rinnan strong in defense along with Holly and Keiren making it very difficult for Phillip Island’s forwards. Great second efforts from all players including Angel who played her best game for the year. Reeve also played a good game and was unlucky not to score but I do believe Reeve is not too far off scoring a lot of goals in the near future. Congrats to Fletcher and Hunter who kicked two crucial goals in the second halve and a beautiful penalty taken by Charlie who really earned and deserved his goal after another tireless effort today. Cannot be more happier for the players with their biggest and best win of the year. On a final note great goalkeeping halves by Mordi and Daniel who were both superb.

Fulltime Score: Drouin 1 – Phillip Island 7
A beautiful day to venture down to Phillip Island. The game started with Phillip Island dominating possession and putting our defence under great pressure. Despite some valiant defence Phillip Island scored frequently with some very good strikes. Defence was quite good led by Thomas and if it wasn’t for some very good keeping by Ace the margin at half time could have been greater.
A much more competitive second half with Drouin kicking with the wind. Sam and Ali had many strong runs forward but were unable to get past the keeper but we eventually got on the score sheet with a well taken penalty scored by Ethan.
Due to the strong opposition, we experimented a bit using both Tyan and Cain out of position as defenders. Well done guys the extra support in defence was welcomed and appreciated.

The girls fought hard all game. They were passing and talking and demonstrating that their hard training is paying off.
Imogen “Cool Hands” Cooper performed exceptionally well in goals, coming out to challenge most players, diving on the ball and putting her body on the line. She made some excellent saves and was Best on for today.
Thalia and Hayley ran hard on the wings, supporting Lilly and Sylvia up forward with excellent through balls. Lilly and Sylvia played superb games, putting pressure on the Island keeper and running balls down to goals.
Sacha and Zoe make an great pair in the mid-field, supporting both the attackers and defence, carrying balls through and blocking a lot of play. The tough ladies in defence had a hard game today, but Zali, Erin, Tyanna and Sophie didn’t let it affect them, they chased, jockeyed and stopped many Island attempts.
Great game by the whole team and what an improvement from the last time we played Phillip Island.
Final Score Drouin 0, Island 4

Drouin’s return to the competition after a 6 week absence went off very well with a comprehensive win over the home side Phillip Island. Drouin maintained most of the possession throughout the game and dominated in the mid-field giving plenty of striking opportunities to the attacking players up front. This win consolidates their position on top of the ladder and pushes their goals scored tally to 96 for the season.

The Dragon women had the wind against them from the first minute of play, allowing Phillip Island to score through high floating balls. Jenni Quaife came off injured only to come back on and shine as GoalKeeper. Jess Nalty had her work cut out for her, tagging a Phillip Island youngster who was their go to for most goal scoring. Bec Brown played well in centre, feeding the ball through, but our forwards, Steph, Erin and Zali couldn’t get past the strong Phillip Island defence.
In the second half Zali tagged the young runner, freeing Jess up to play more of the ball through the centre. Island was too strong however and kept the Drouin girls flustered on the ball. To their credit, Drouin did not drop, they chased down each ball and fought hard up to the final whistle.
Final Score: Drouin 0: Phillip Island 11
Best: Jenni Quaife (cool head in goals) and Zali Fitzgerald for excellent tagging. Whole team mention as everyone fought hard!

The Senior Drouin side came out firing on all cylinders against Phillip Island on their home turf displaying good composure on the ball, and excellent support play off it. The match was not without its moments however with both teams not being prepared to give any quarter to the opposition. Drouin opened their account through a brilliant header from inside the box by Chris Davies followed shortly thereafter by an amazing through ball played to Tyler Ryan who finished off superbly. The first half finished 2-0 in Drouin’s favour.

The second half was a much more torrid affair with Phillip Island picking up the pace in an attempt to off-put Drouin. However, Drouin’s resolve was firm and they held off Island and swung the tables again with another goal from a nicely placed cheeky free kick taken by Steve Smythe mid-way through the second half.
The Game finished 3-0.
