Fantastic first game, very close missed a few opportunities for goals. A bit of work needed in clearing the ball out of the box. great to see players sharing the ball looking for team mates, some awesome passages of play 2 of which resulted in goals

Under 12’s
Fulltime Score: Drouin 11 – Wonthaggi 2
The Team started very strong to begin the season with an opening goal only taking a couple of minutes.
Against an undermanned yet determined opposition the team performed well scoring consistently throughout the game.
Samuel had a day out scoring 5 goals for the game. A very positive first game for Drouin from Cain Layland showing his good skills and netting three goals. Only downside for the day was that we conceded two own goals which was a pity as Ace performed very well in goals making numerous saves but had no chance with the two deflections.

Coaches Award: Thomas Agudo

Under 14’s
Fulltime Score: Drouin 4 – Wonthaggi 1
Drouin started strongly with most of the first half in the Drouin Dragons half. The Under 14’s Defence, led by Lasaro held up really well throughout the game limiting Wonthaggi to 1 Goal. Flynn played well sweeping across the backline and kicking two goals during the game. Imogen performed another great role as Goal Keeper and stopped a few certain Wonthaggi Goals. Overall a great effort with strong running and excellent passing by the team.

Under 15 Girls
Fulltime Score: Drouin 4 – Wonthaggi 3
We loaned Wonthaggi 3 players as they were short and got off to a great start! Sasha Geerlings scored within the first 15 minutes. Possession of the ball changed between both teams frequently during the next 15 minutes, with Wonthaggi equalising, Drouin scoring again through a great shot by Lily Carrison, to have Wonthaggi score again through a loan player from Drouin, Zali Fitzgerald.
The second half saw little change on the field, although the Drouin girls were a much more determined group. Both Sasha and Lily scored again, with Wonthaggi unable to match. Cool hands again from goal keeper Imogen Cooper and support from Ebony and Sylvia saw the team run home with a 4-3 win!
Thanks to Thalia, Zoe and Zali for playing for Wonthaggi. Great effort from all!

The Drouin Reserves came out firing and completely dominated the play across all positions. The score reflected the collective team effort with 4 goals being scored within the first 25 minutes of the game. The first half ended with no further goals being scored. The second half was a repeat of the first half, with the team dominating the play and working basic but effective combinations utilising both wings, and punching attacks through the mid-field. 3 further goals were scored in the second half with the game closing at 7-0 to Drouin.

Senior Womens
Fulltime Score: Drouin 0 – Wonthaggi 4
There were many fresh legs on the pitch today, with 6 new players and a few old favourite making a comeback. Only 5 players from last years team took the pitch.
Bec Bickerdike did a great job in goals, although the defence let themselves down, with Wonthaggi scoring two quick goals. During the half time break the girls spoke about chasing the ball and second efforts. It was a changed side that took to the pitch in the second half. The score line doesn’t reflect the effort put in by the team as they chased each ball, and contested each play.
No score for the dragons, but a great effort for the first round. Also, a huge thank you to Tyanna, Erin and Zali for playing what we hope is the first of many games for the women.
Awards: best on, Jess Nalty,
Country Club most determined: Zali Fitzgerald.

Mens Seniors
Fulltime Score: Drouin 3 – Wonthaggi 1
The Drouin Seniors got off to a difficult start coming up against some determined opposition.
Drouin opened the scoring first with a goal scored by Caleb Hotchkin following through from a cross in. Wonthaggi responded with a goal approximately five minutes later evening the score. Shortly before half time, Tim Laidlaw slotted in a nice shot off the left upright to edge Drouin in front at half time.
The second half saw both teams jostle for position and domination, but it was Drouin in the end that sealed the match with Caleb’s 2nd goal.
